Registrar Spotlight
Ellen Scarborough: Lee County
Family: I was raised by my parents Melanie and Scott Scarborough in Phenix City, AL, which is a portion of Lee County. My parents divorced in early 2015 and my dad remarried Hope Scarborough, State Auditor Sorrell’s Chief of Staff, in September of 2017. My mother and I still currently reside in Phenix City and my dad has relocated to Auburn, Alabama. All my life I have been an only child up until a few years ago. When my dad remarried, I was blessed with the best stepmother and bonus mom out there. A saying that comes to my mind when I think of my stepmother is, “...and then there was Hope.” This statement rings true to me because my stepmother has been a blessing to me, and I could not imagine a life without her. She gave me two wonderful stepsisters that are more like really good friends to me. Elizabeth, Mary Kathryn, and I are two years apart in age. Elizabeth is the youngest, me being the middle child (yay middle child syndrome) and Mary Kathryn being the oldest. Both currently reside in Birmingham, AL.
My love story is quite interesting, I should say. Joshua and I literally met in a crash. The saying, “He crashed into my life” is quite literal when it comes to our relationship. We met through friends and hit it off quite quickly, no pun intended. Joshua is an accountant for RAM Hotels in Columbus, Georgia. He and I have been together for three years now and are freshly engaged! We expect to get married on November 8, 2025!!
When were you first appointed and what do you like most about being a Registrar? I was appointed in October of 2023, by Agricultural Commissioner, Rick Pate! I think the number one thing that I like about being a Registrar is meeting and discussing policies with law makers and representatives in our Great State of Alabama. This appointment is also very beneficial because it is a stepping-stone in my career in Governance and Politics as well.
If I am not at work, you can find me on the river, fishing. I have always been a fishing gal and am always looking for the next honey hole. I also love being around my friends. I have a small circle, but it is about quality, not quantity. I truly thrive being around a crowd with live music and hanging out with the dearest people in my life. Nothing gets better than that.
What are you most proud of in your life? My fiancé, Joshua, never ceases to amaze me. In the amount of time that he has been with RAM Hotels, he has consistently proven himself and is working his way up the totem pole of accounting. I ultimately thank God for everything He has done for him - how He is paving the way so Joshua can continue to do great things for himself and our family!
I am also most proud of the men and women who serve or have served in the military for our country. Freedom does not come free. Thank a soldier today.
