Albert Lipscomb
Albert Lipscomb, Baldwin County
Born and raised in Baldwin County, AL, Albert Lipscomb grew up on his family farm. Through those experiences many of life’s important lessons were learned through working together with his family. The hours were often long; especially during planting and harvesting. Much of the work included physical labor in the hay fields, or pitching watermelons during the heat of summer. The many wonderful memories experienced in those early years were preparation for a life of service.
During his years at Foley High School Albert was very active in FFA, co-captain of the football team and Student Council President. After high school Albert enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard and served seven years. Along the way he attended American Christian College and graduated from Mobile College (University of Mobile) where he met and married Rhonda, his wife of 48 years. Together, they have two adult children and seven grandchildren.
In 1989, Albert was elected to the Alabama State Senate and served until 2002. He also served on the Baldwin County Commission from 2004-2006. Albert was first appointed to the Board of Registrars in 2011 by Agriculture Commissioner John McMillan and re-appointed by Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate. Today, Albert’s “farming” mainly consists of planting a garden each year and working with the local antique tractor club where he is the chaplain. He is a deacon and Sunday school teacher and an active member of Gideons International where he volunteers distributing Bibles both at home and abroad.
When he was younger Baldwin County was relatively rural - Highway #59 to Gulf Shores consisted of 2 lanes! Albert often says,” We did not grow up in Mayberry, but it was about as close as it could get.” These days Albert still enjoys working with the people of Baldwin County and the Great State of Alabama as a Registrar.
